5 Denver Bagel Sandwich Favorites

What is it about a bagel sandwich that just makes mornings a little brighter? The chewy dough, the crackly crust, the eggy, cheesy, meaty mashup warming you from within: there’s so very much to love. And we’d love to have one right now. Luckily for us, there are a lot of top-notch bagel shops in Denver where we can get one—the hardest part is choosing which one to satisfy our carb craving today. To make it easier for you to satisfy yours as well, we’ve compiled a list of some of our favorite bagel sandwich spots in Denver. We recommend eating your way down the list one morning at a time.

The Bagel Deli & Restaurant

6439 E Hampden Ave, Denver CO 80222

This family-owned local institution is one of Denver’s longest standing restaurants, serving homemade comfort food for 55 years. The authentic Jewish deli is known for its personality as much as its sandwiches piled high with corned beef and pastrami. But like its name suggests, bagels are what this place does best. The Egg Sandwich comes with your choice of smoked turkey, bacon, or beef sausage topped with cheese, but we recommend the Bacon, Egg & Cheese. It’s a classic for a reason.

Located inside FlyteCo Brewing, this sandwich shop specializes in steamed bagels, which they claim make for the most delicious sandwiches you’ll ever taste. And they’re not just breakfast sandwiches, either, although those are an option. But we prefer the Grace Always Wins on a jalapeño cheddar bagel. It’s got a plain cream cheese spread with cucumber, tomato, sprouts, and banana peppers, making it a veggie-lover’s breakfast dream come true.

Rosenberg’s is a traditional bagel and NYC style delicatessen that only uses the highest quality ingredients. They recreate NYC’s water with a machine that they had custom-fabricated to replicate the signature style of New York’s celebrated bagels as authentically as possible. The bagels are baked fresh daily, coming out of the oven and into the bins throughout the morning. And while they’re always delicious, when they’re fresh out of the oven, they’re ah-mazing. So good, in fact, that there’s nary a toaster on site. These bagels are perfect as is. And they make the perfect vehicle for sandwich fillings. We particularly like the Jersey Boy: double-stacked Taylor ham, fried eggs, American cheese, and SPK on an egg bagel. Try it at any of the three Denver-area locations.

Rye Society is a neighborhood delicatessen specializing in gourmet, made-from-scratch Jewish cuisine made from old family recipes with some contemporary updates. In Denver, it’s well-known for its New York-style comfort food like the Hebrew Hammer bagel sandwich. It has acme lox, vine ripe tomatoes, pickled red onions, capers, cucumbers, dill, and plain shmear on your choice of fresh-made bagel. And it’s comfortingly good.

7559 E Academy Blvd, Denver CO 80230

This casual-comfort dining spot inspired by hand-crafted, wood-fired cooking specializes in Montreal-style bagels, which are not to be confused with the ones from New York. The dough has both eggs and honey in it, and the water the bagels are boiled in is sweetened with honey as well. Montreal-style bagels are baked in a wood-burning oven, giving them a nice crunchy exterior and chewy interior. At Woodgrain, the bagels are hand-rolled, baked to perfection, and loaded end to end with seeds and spices. They’re warm, salty, and delicious and make for a helluva sandwich bread. Try the Woodsman Loaded Bagel Sandwich, piled high with your choice of ham, bacon or sausage, two scrambled eggs, cheddar, avocado, arugula, and tomato on your choice of wood-fired bagel of your choice. The breakfast potatoes served with it are a tasty bonus.
